"Fashion is not an indulgence, it is an Expression."
Designer - Erica Jean
Working in the fashion industry: styling, marketing, and freelance designing in the San Francisco Bay Area has been wonderful. I was able to intern for a couture bridal company called Amy Kuschel Bride while I was in school and since graduation from FIDM in 2009 I have worked on many freelance projects such as styling, logo, costume, and swimwear design.
In 2010 I began working for a start up company called Enliva Products. It is a sun protective clothing line for people with skin cancer, sun allergies, etc. All of our fabrics are treated to have a tested UPF of 50. I have been designing, creating flats for line sheets, and been to trade shows not only sourcing but also representing the line. We recently changed the name and url to the UPF Sun Shop. It is still a working progress but it feels amazing to do what I love and be able to help others in the process. I love being a part of the awareness and keeping business in the U.S. is a plus.
Last year I've expanded my experience to merchandising and styling for Forever 21. Starting with a blank canvas I built walls, positioned fixtures and lighting, implemented accessories and mannequins to create an unforgettable shopping experience for customers. I moved up to styling window mannequins and learned a great deal about the business and what the target customer is shopping for. Based on these statistics, I style the mannequins accordingly with the season’s trendiest pieces with the highest price point and quantity to bring the customers in and drive sales.
During my spare time I enjoy designing jewelry and accessories including but not limited to mini terrariums, feather earrings, body chains, tiny journals, and paintings. I've been selling my creations at EJsDesigns on Etsy. It’s a great creative outlet with no restrictions. In the past year I was able to sell my handmade creations at Capsule and was a featured Raw artist at HolidayRawk in December 2012.
Through my journey I developed a better sense in the knowledge of business and technical skills that make it possible for me to adapt easily to a new environment. You will find that I have a great mix of passion and pragmatism. I make realistic steps in reaching goals efficiently with strong organizational and communication skills.
